Una vez, un hombre tuvo un sueño en mitad de la noche. Una visión que se quedó en su memoria… con el sonido del silencio.

En aquella visión, se hablaba de cómo el mundo se había vuelto menos humano. Las personas cada vez se relacionaban más, se concebían multitudes como nunca se hubieran imaginado… pero la cercanía humana había desaparecido. A nadie realmente le importaba lo que a otro le pasara.

El visionario luchó por cambiarlo, por evitar que ese silencio corrompiera y enfermara aún más a una sociedad que poco a poco se acercaba al barranco, pero sus palabras como silenciosas gotas de agua calleron. Y retumbaron en las paredes del pozo del silencio.

Se trata de una de las poesías hechas música más gran de todos los tiempos. Los autores, Simon & Garfunkel, unos maestros que reconvirtieron el folk para que las masas pudieran disfrutar de él. Una guitarra y unas voces que realmente transmiten la frustración de una sociedad que se ha vuelto loca.

Os dejo también una actuación del duo en el festival de Monterey de 1967 que me encoge las entrañas, relamente increíbles.

Left its seeds while I was sleeping

“Fools,” said I, “you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.”
“Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.”
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed in the wells of silence.

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said: “The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls,
And whisper’d in the sound of silence.”
