Neutral Milk Hotel es probablemente una de las bandas más importantes de la escena independiente estadounidense durante la década de los 90. De hecho, en 1998 publicaron “In the Aeroplane over the Sea”, disco que a día de hoy se ha convertido en un disco de culto. Toda una opera en la que cada canción está encadenada con la siguiente, de tal modo que el completo se puede considerar una obra maestra tanto a nivel musical como lírico.

La canción que os quiero presentar hoy, se trata de una canción en la que Jeff Mangum acompañado de una sóla guitarra, canta con voz rasgada y emotiva la triste historia del “niño de dos cabezas”. Al escucharla os daréis cuenta de que pocas veces se escriben canciones tan poco instrumentadas, pero que a la vez sean tan fuertes y directas. Sin duda la voz de Mangum, es algo que se sale de lo normal.

El mensaje es altamente melancólico, de como el chico marginado por ser distinto encuentra la luz en alguien… que pierde o que ya perdió tiempo atrás. Pero a la vez, también se habla sobre cómo “no hay razón para afligirse” ya que sólo de él depende el seguir adelante.

En cualquier caso, para mí “Two-headed boy” es uno de esos temas con los que puedo desahogarme. De esos temas que me gusta ponerme en casa para cantar en alto y sacar todas las energías que tengo dentro. Simplemente una maravilla.
